Which patch type is best for jackets or heavy garments?
For jackets, outerwear, or other heavy fabrics, we usually recommend Laser Engraved or Embroidered Patches, as both offer the perfect balance of structure, durability, and visual impact. These patch types hold their shape well and complement the weight of thicker materials, ensuring your logo or design feels integrated rather than flimsy.
Laser Engraved Patches are ideal for modern brands wanting a clean, retail finish on canvas or denim-style jackets. They’re durable, weather-resistant, and visually bold without adding bulk. Embroidered Patches deliver a more traditional, textured look, perfect for workwear, uniforms, or heritage-inspired branding. Both handle outdoor exposure, abrasion, and frequent washing extremely well.
When compared to direct embroidery, patches often perform better on heavy garments because they avoid the tension and needle stress that embroidery can cause on thick layers. With embroidery, thousands of stitches are driven directly into the fabric, which can sometimes make dense materials stiff or pucker slightly. Patches, on the other hand, are applied on top, either heat-pressed or sewn, allowing them to maintain flexibility while still achieving a premium finish.
Woven and Sublimated Patches can also be used on jackets but are better suited for smoother or lighter-weight materials, where a softer, more flexible patch feels more natural. For extremely thick garments, like canvas work jackets or insulated outerwear, our team will often recommend sewing the patches for maximum hold and longevity. If we think embroidery or another method will achieve a cleaner result for your specific item, we’ll always let you know before production begins.
