Can DFT be used on hats or thick materials?

Edited

Yes, with the right setup and garment choice. DFT (Direct-Film-Transfer) works best on flat, even surfaces where consistent heat and pressure can be applied, but with our professional-grade hat presses, we can apply DFT successfully to many hat styles. It works particularly well on five-panel hats that have a flat front panel without a center seam.

However, for six-panel hats, where a front seam runs through the middle, the logo placement needs to be adjusted slightly off-center to avoid distortion or uneven adhesion. DFT transfers can’t bridge over raised seams, as they prevent full contact with the press plate.

DFT can also perform well on some outerwear pieces, though it depends heavily on the fabric type and surface texture. Smooth or lightly structured jackets usually work fine, but heavy canvas, insulated, or highly textured materials may not be ideal. If that’s the case, our team will advise you at the quoting stage and recommend embroidery or custom patches instead. We’ll always guide you toward the method that produces the cleanest, most professional result for your garment and design.
