Can you print white ink with DFT?
Yes, we can. One of the major advantages of DFT (Direct-Film-Transfer) over older heat transfer printing methods is its ability to print white ink underbases directly onto the transfer film. This means your designs will appear bright, crisp, and accurate, whether printed on light, dark, or coloured garments.
That white underbase acts as a foundation layer, ensuring colours remain vibrant and true, even on black or deep-toned fabrics. It eliminates the faded or dull appearance that older heat transfers often had when printed on darker materials. The white ink we use is highly opaque but still soft and flexible, blending into the garment rather than sitting on top of it.
If you’re planning a design with both light and dark garment variations, DFT is an excellent choice since it adapts easily without needing separate setups for each colourway. The end result is a print that pops beautifully on every fabric, with consistent quality across your full order.
