What kinds of designs work best for DFT?
DFT (Direct-Film-Transfer) is an versatile method that shines with complex, detailed, and colourful designs, the kind that might be difficult, costly, or even impossible to produce with traditional screen printing. It can reproduce photo-realistic artwork, soft gradients, small text, and intricate patterns with outstanding sharpness and clarity.
Because DFT is printed digitally, there are no extra charges for multiple colours or overlapping elements, making it perfect for brand logos, detailed illustrations, or full-colour graphics that span multiple products. However, just like in screen printing, we always recommend leaving white space or open areas within large, solid designs. This allows the print to move more naturally with the fabric, keeping the garment soft and breathable with a premium hand feel.
One limitation of DFT is that is cannot print gradients or low opacity "fades" at the edge of a design. Artwork should be designed with clean edges for best results.
When used thoughtfully, DFT produces a vibrant, durable print that feels light and looks retail-ready. It’s the best way to bring bold, creative ideas to life without sacrificing comfort or print quality.
